Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 3 July 2023 – Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (“EXIM Bank”), a leading development financial institution (DFI) committed to sustainable development, launched its “re-Plant Project”, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) environment programme that is aimed at combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

The tree planting project recognises the urgent need to address the global climate crisis the world is going through. EXIM Bank has undertaken this initiative, in collaboration with University Putra Malaysia, to contribute to reforestation efforts and mitigate the impacts of deforestation. By leveraging its resources, the Bank aims to make a tangible and lasting impact on the environment, while engaging its employees in a collective effort to protect our planet.

Organised at Sultan Idris Shah Forest Education Centre (SISFEC), Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam in Puchong, Selangor, the tree planting programme will involve the strategic planting of a number of trees across various areas, focusing on affected regions by deforestation, urbanisation, and ecosystem degradation.

EXIM Bank’s President and Chief Executive, Arshad Ismail said: “We believe that it is our responsibility as a development financial institution to contribute actively to a sustainable future. By launching this re-Plant Project, we are taking a tangible step towards addressing climate change and preserving our planet for future generations.

“We are excited to collaborate with University Putra Malaysia, media and our employees, who happen to be our stakeholders, in making a lasting impact.”

In addition to the direct impact on the environment, the tree planting programme aligns with the Bank’s broader sustainability strategy, which emphasises responsible business practices, renewable energy financing, and reducing carbon emissions. The Bank remains committed to integrating sustainability into its core operations and promoting a greener future for generations to come.

The Bank is proud of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and by actively engaging in reforestation efforts, it hopes to inspire positive change, raise awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources, and contribute to the fight against climate change. Together, we make a positive impact.
